Yet Pettyfer has shown an obvious interest in the film and has already filmed a scene screen test for Gus van Sant. The 34-year-old Somerhalder has publicly expressed his own interest in the project as well, meaning the smart money would be on either Somerhalder or Pettyfer. Both would be about a six-year age difference with the character, though it would be easy to see either of them as Christian’s age of 27 or 28. That said, the majority of current gossip points towards Alex Pettyfer being given the role, largely based on the screen test. As it looks, Pettyfer is the man to beat for the role of Christian Grey in the upcoming movie.
