Comic-Con casting reveal just a rumor?

Now the script is finished and a director has been chosen, the only thing left now is to find a suitable cast for the Fifty Shades of Grey movies. With a projected release for August 2014, there is only a year left for filming, so it’s understandable that there have been rumors about casting and its reveal.

The latest in the rumor mill was that the official cast would be unveiled in San Diego later this month, but the author of the Fifty Shades of Grey series has denied these rumors and has decided to set the record straight, once and for all.

“I dunno where this rumor started that the cast would be revealed at Comic Con… but it is just that – rumor (sighs”,” E.L. James tweeted to fans.

But with the official release date being scheduled as August 1, 2014, there isn’t much time left to pick a cast, but the release date definitely isn’t a rumor, since Focus Features officially announced it on their Facebook page:

“The global release of Fifty Shades of Grey will start in North America on Friday, August 1st, 2014 with opening dates around the world to be announced. The Focus Features domestic theatrical release will be in theatres nationwide. Universal Pictures International is releasing the movie in the rest of the world.”

The movie is coming along, especially now that a director has been picked. British Sam Taylor-Johnson has recently joined the Fifty Shades team as the director, and will be putting Kelly Marcel’s script adaptation of E.L. James’s book onto the big screen.

“I am excited to be charged with the evolution of Fifty Shades of Grey from page to screen,” said Taylor-Johnson in a statement, “For the legions of fans, I want to say that I will have honor the power of Erika’s book and the characters of Christian and Anastasia. They are under my skin too.”

So far we’re no wiser on the casting, especially since the number one spot seems to flit between Henry Cavill, Matt Bomer, Ian Somerhalder, Ryan Gosling, and more recently, Robert Pattinson. On the girls’ side, it could go either way, with the popular names being Emilia Clarke, Lucy Hale, Alexis Bledel, Ashley Greene and many more young and pretty actresses. Perhaps we might not find this out at Comic Con, but we’re pretty sure that we can expect to hear something about the movie’s casting round the corner any day now.
